There are more than 143 million orphans in the world. We can make a difference ... one child at a time.

Without the benefit of a loving family, orphans face malnutrition, infectious diseases, developmental delays, poor medical care, and a lack of basic love and attention. They either grow up in the streets, in foster care, or in an institution with a high ratio of children to caregivers. (See the Orphans & Adoption page for more information.)

The Bible says this: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress." (James 1:27 NIV)  Like the starfish on the beach, it might seem like there are far too many orphans, and we can't possibly make a difference. But, we can ... one child at a time.

In 2011, our family is adopting a five-year-old boy and bringing him home to America. (See the Blog page for a regularly updated adoption blog.) Once his adoption is complete, we intend to "pay it forward" by helping other families afford international adoption. A single adoption can cost parents anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000, for paperwork, legal fees, immigration, and travel. The cost can feel overwhelming and, without help, can discourage parents from even trying to adopt a child internationally.

The Starfish Project raises funds through donations and purchases from our store. From January through June of 2011, the funds will go toward the adoption of an orphan boy from Russian. After June 2011, the funds will go to other families who are adopting internationally.

You can help! See Donate and Store for more information.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these
brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."  (Matthew 25:35, 40 NIV)
